Akshaya Tritiya, also known as Akha Teej, is a highly auspicious and significant festival celebrated by Hindus across Nepal and beyond. Observed on the third lunar day of the bright half of the Vedic lunar month of Vaishakha (usually falling in April or May), Akshaya Tritiya holds a special place in the hearts of devotees as a day of immense blessings, prosperity, and new beginnings.
The term "Akshaya" means eternal or never diminishing in Sanskrit, and "Tritiya" refers to the third lunar day. Therefore, Akshaya Tritiya is often regarded as a day where any auspicious activity is believed to bring everlasting prosperity and success. It is considered an ideal time for new ventures, investments, marriages, and other significant life events.
According to Hindu mythology, it is believed that on this day, Lord Vishnu incarnated as Parashurama, the sixth avatar, and that the river Ganges descended to Earth from the heavens. Additionally, it marks the day when Sudama, a close friend of Lord Krishna, visited him with a handful of beaten rice , which he offered with utmost devotion. In return, Lord Krishna blessed Sudama with prosperity and abundance, signifying the importance of giving and receiving with a pure heart.
